Bure Andra's major research facility is the LSMHM Underground Research Laboratory sited at Bure district, aiming at studying the feasibility of the reversible geological disposal of high-level and long-lived intermediate-level radioactive waste in clay formations (France).
Gorleben The aim of the exploration of the Gorleben salt dome was to obtain all the information and data necessary to assess the suitability of the salt dome as a potential final repository for all types of radioactive waste (Germany).
Grimsel Test site The Grimsel Test Site (GTS) in Switzerland, was established as a centre for underground Research and Development (R&D) supporting a wide range of research projects on the disposal of radioactive waste.
HADES The underground laboratory HADES is the most important research infrastructure in Belgium for experimental research on the deep geological disposal of radioactive waste.
Mont Terri The Mont Terri Project is an international research project for the hydrogeological, geochemical and geotechnical characterisation of a clay formation (Switzerland).
ONKALO One element of the confirming site investigations conducted at Olkiluoto, Finland, is the excavation of the underground rock characterisation facility (ONKALO) that reached the final disposal depth (-420 m) in June 2010.
Äspö The Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory (HRL) is a unique research facility for geological disposal. The purpose of the experiments performed can range from mapping the flow of water in the rock to the life of microbes (Sweden).
